Thank you for honoring the Memory of Brother Raymond Hoyt, C. F. X. with your donation to Team Xaverian.
Brother Ray was diagnosed with ALS in the Summer of 2016 and lost his battle October 9, 2017.
Brother Ray generously shared his gifts with the Xaverian Community for many years serving as a teacher and an administrator. One of Brother Ray’s biggest roles was meeting with students. In that role his affirmation was constant, but so was the challenge to become the best person you could be. As long as you could tell him you were doing the best you could, then that was all he asked for.
One of Brother Ray’s colleagues shared the following about him shortly after he past
“For many years Bro. Ray spoke at the XBSS Retreat, and he shared two major things. The first was a simple series of statements: Don’t just look, SEE. Don’t just hear, LISTEN. Don’t just feel, LOVE. Bro. Ray was convinced that so many people simply go through the motions and don’t SEE the deeper meaning of the people and situations in front of them; don’t LISTEN to the real meaning people express; don’t LOVE fully and care for each other. His lesson was simple: we are called to be fully present to each other, and not allow ourselves to miss the greater picture. As for the greater picture, he felt it was expressed in the image of the child and the hand.
Of course, the image of being in the hands of God is an easy one to understand at face value, but Bro. Ray then would ask the retreat participants to imagine times in their lives where they had to be like the girl and depend on God (and others), and to imagine times where they had to be like the hand and support others.”
Brother Ray was able to join us our first year participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS but as the walk was approaching last year Brother Ray’s health was declining so we reached out to him to ask him about us having a team again. These were his words which captured his support...
"Having lived with this for a year or so, I would wholeheartedly endorse the ALS walk for Xaverian. Spread the news and love and work for some sort of cure. I really do appreciate all the hard work and effort expended on ALS. It does work….I am lucky to have Xaverian Brothers High School and my family behind me. May God's peace be with all. Love, Bro. Ray" (June 2017)
Your donation will help support those living with ALS and help aid in research to end this dreadful disease.
For sure Brother Raymond is smiling down on all of us in support.
God Bless you.
Why We Need Your Help
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages two to five years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease, though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the meantime it costs an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need. Join the movement to bring help and hope today!
