Your whole life your mother takes care of you - she feeds you, teaches you to walk and speak, she's there for every fall and worry, but what happens when ALS turns your life upside down..
It started with unexpected falls in January of 2018, which led to her diagnosis. We didn't know what to expect, we didn't know how fast our lives would be changing and that we'd be watching our mom slowly lose her independence as she grew unable to walk, feed herself, or even speak. We never would have imagined the heartbreak that has come with this new life we are living together with ALS.
While our lives have indeed changed, and many tears have been shed our mother is still taking care of us by teaching us many things we never knew we still need to learn. She teaches us about strength with her will to keep fighting, she teaches us about hope when she smiles and hugs her grandchildren, she teaches us about the power of family and community by bringing people together.
One of the most important things she's taught us with her battle is something she's taught us once before by teaching us to walk for a second time. This time to walk with PURPOSE: to walk for a CAUSE. We walk to fight ALS, we walk for a cure for the disease, we walk for her. We walk for Heather Carroll.
